1.8 liters. 150hp/145tq. That’s a healthy and beefy little engine, especially with pushrods and 2 valves. For some reason I want to put it into an MG-Midget with side pipes and make a teeny Ford Cobra.

Are those custom exhaust headers and carburetors?

Probably custom headers, but rally racing SAAB v4's was popular in the day so I would imagine readily available custom headers. I believe the carbs are just 44 dcnf webers.

Why are V-4 layouts almost never used?

Production cost (apart from Ford the only other manufacturers to mass-produce V4 engines were Lancia during their “lets not give a shit about costs” years as well as ZAZ because Soviet) and Vibrations.

A V4 like this Ford Cologne unit is much rougher than a conventional I4 even though they already had balance shafts, something not helped by the fact that on the early Ford P4 the engine and gearbox also fulfilled a structural role and were directly connected to the front suspension arms.
